Our Story
Our team predominantly comes from the film industry, where they built intricate detailed pieces for TV shows and movies. In 2023 when the strikes slowed the industry down to a crawl, it became apparent that a pivot was needed. We knew we had to do something else, and so we looked at the things that we loved doing in our time in film, and let that inform what we wanted to do next.
"Even Shakespeare was a Grain Merchant."
That's how it started. It's true too, William Shakespeare made money selling grain throughout his life, to the point that when he died, his original tombstone had a bag of grain on it.
A lifetime of cheap belts and overpriced bags had instilled in us the need for somewhere that people could buy good quality, high end leather that was more than just a brand name. It would be reliable, gear you could depend on, that fits your body the way you deserve.
And then a little inspiration from the Bard himself, who also couldn't just rest on this theatrical laurels. He was a Grain Merchant.
Grain is a core element of human civilization. It's something that every civilization has prioritized, and cultivated. It shapes our language, and how we think about food. In English we call it a meal, after all. A word we also use for coarsely ground grains for food.
Leather working has been practiced longer than Agriculture has. It's something that connects us back to our roots, even before we thought about planting grain. The methods haven't changed much in the last 50 000 years. Archeologists find tools in burial sites that look the same as the ones on our desks.
A well made leather piece isn't just an accessory, it's a piece of wearable art that connects you to all of human history. In a modern world where things are made of plastic and cheap synthetics, we give you a piece of something real. Something timeless. It may not nourish your stomach, but we hope it nourishes your soul.
That's what grain is for, after all.
